How To Avoid Binge-Eating During Self-Isolation

Due to COVID we all are spending most of our time at home while working remotely that causes stress which leads to stress eating which is quite common because food is ultimately comforting thing. If someone's not stress eating, they must be binge-eating while binge-watching any show or they are ordering junk food, chasing it down with soft drinks, adding cookies or icecream on top and already thinking of skipping gym due to lack of willpower to workout. Binge-eating isn't that bad but we need to keep on replacing junk with healthy food like replacing soda with any juice or milkshake.

There are many ways and tips to avoid it some of them are :

  • Try Fasting. It helps alot. Skip breakfast, drink only coffee or water in morning and start eating at around evening and keep track of calories. Also a trick is to chew gum whenever you want to eat during non-meal times.

  • Fix your Routine. Focus on having healthy two or three times meal. Try to sleep at the time you get urges to binge-eat like mostly people binge-eat at night when they can't sleep and are super bored so they just pick up the phone and order anything randomly even if they are not hungry.

  • Try Yoga. Yoga may be a practice that comes with both the body and mind by using specific breathing exercises, poses, and meditation to scale back stress and enhance relaxation.Studies indicate that yoga can help encourage healthy eating habits and reduce the danger of emotional eating. It can help prevent binge eating and may reduce common triggers like stress, depression, and anxiety.

  • Clean out Unhealthy Food. Removing unhealthy and junk food from your kitchen and stocking up on healthy alternatives can improve diet quality and make it harder to binge eat. Stocking your kitchen with fruits, vegetables, protein-rich foods, whole grains, nuts, and seeds can improve your diet.

  • Keep Social Support System. Having someone with similar diet goals or someone whom you can trust, someone who can have your back or someone whom you can count can always help you in long run. Call them whenever you are stressed and feel like overeating so they can calm you down. A good social support system can help to reduce the impact of stress, which may help decrease your risk of other coping habits like binge-eating.
